St. Mary's beat Montgomery County in the finals on Sunday with wins by Hope Ironmonger in girls' singles, William Clark and Connor McKissick in boys' doubles, and Hope Ironmonger and Lydia Browne in girls' doubles. The other 2 matches ended in hard-fought losses, with Robert Bishop, and the pairing of Zachary Maier and Danielle Gorman both falling in tie-breakers, in Boys' Singles and Mixed Doubles, respectively.

On thier way to the finals, St. Mary's posted decisive wins in their flight over Talbot County and Howard County teams.

The team, which also includes players Hank Jones, Grace and Spencer White, Tiffany Moreira, William Ironmonger, Nicholas Chan, Taylor Nelson and Zakary Monin, travels to the University of Mary Washington on August 13 to play in the Mid-Atlantic Sectional Tournament.  They will also be honored at the Legg Mason tournament on August 2nd.

St. Mary's County U14 and U10 divisions also sent teams to the state tournament.

The U10 Team, coached by Brian Abell, Steve Bishop and Christine Driscoll, advanced directly to the finals by way of being only 1 of 2 teams in their bracket.  They brought home finalist medals after a tough loss to a strong Montgomery County team, and will also be traveling to Fredericksburg next month to compete in the Sectional tournament.  Congratulations to players Liam Poole, Annabelle Finagin, Grant Allen, Bridget Knott, Paul Bishop, Michael Krall, Noah and Domenic Gaudagnoli, and Jacquelyn Francis!

The U14 Team, coached by Brian Abell, Keith Rizkowski, Sue Bellis and Chris Coughlin, were unable to advance beyond their flight, with stiff competition provided by teams from PG and Montgomery County.  Congratulations to Jason Balazs, Alysha Hodkiewicz, Maeve Coughlin, Davis Kelllogg, Kiranjit Kaur, Rohan Singh, Daniel Rizkowski and Cooper Rice on making it to states!
