Third Annual Polar Bear Tennis Tournament, February 20 – 21, at Breton Bay Golf and Country Club. This tournament is strategically scheduled to help high school players gear up for their seasons, and high school players of all levels may register. To ensure close matches, players are placed in groups based on ability, from newer players to accomplished high school players. There is no younger age limit, but players must be able to serve to some degree and keep score. Events this year include singles and doubles. Separate boys’ and girls’ events will be held if the number of registrations warrants this. Otherwise, girls might compete against boys of similar playing ability. While a male and female may sign up as a doubles team, no separate mixed doubles event is planned unless the entries warrant this. Round Robin format, with two matches guaranteed. Due to possible weather delays, players must be available between 9AM and 8PM both days and special match times should not be requested. For more info you may visit bretonbayrecreation.com or contact Russ Carrington. Registration forms must be received by 9PM on February 17th, and can be downloaded by clicking here. |

As of last night I upgraded our hosting account to a dedicated IP address, rather than a shared IP, which solved the issue of not being able to access the site from NMCI. It is likely that another site which was sharing our old address got blocked, which in turn blocked our site as well. Happy browsing! |

Despite the slightly-too-small room, the SMCTA party and meeting this past Saturday was a success. Here are a couple pics, including the newly elected board for 2010.

SMCTA Members - Please save the date for our yearly membership meeting/party.Saturday, November 21 @ 6 PM Place and price are still TBD. Breton Bay CC increased their cost and reduced the number of food trays in their package, so we are in the process of exploring 3 or 4 other options. Full info will be announced as soon as it is available. Also, as the yearly meeting is when elections are held for new board members, we would like to officially announce our acceptance of nominations for new board members at this time. If you are interested in volunteering for the 2010 year or would like to nominate someone, please let Sue Bellis know via e-mail! |

Check out our new page on Facebook! Log-in to your Facebook accounts today and become a fan! We would love to see everyone posting about local tennis (or whatever!) on our wall, especially pictures :) I have posted all the pics from the gender compass tournament. If anyone can help look through them and tag people that would be greatly appreciated! |

Play began last week, but we are still hoping to attract 2 more teams. To help facilitate this, the league rules have been slightly modified, and a deadline of September 25th has been set for the formation and declaration of new teams. Newly formed teams will then start play on Sunday, Sept. 27th. You can open the full article to see the rule changes, or click here for the newly updated full set of rules. Remember that league captains play for free in all SMCTA leagues! If you are interested in being a captain, you can view the list of currently registered players on this page (you must be logged into the website). Also keep in mind that you may know folks who are interested who don't use the website; you are not required to only pick players from this list. If you have a team to declare, or need the full info on the available players (includes ratings and contact info), please contact me. If you are still interested in playing and are not yet on a team, please make sure you are registered online (click here to register) so that prospective captains can see who all is available. |
