New for 2010 the SMCTA presents theSouthern Maryland Tennis Cup SeriesCove Point Spring Fling Tournament - April 17-18 Breton Bay Open - May 29-31 New! First Annual St. Mary's College Open - July 3-5
In our continuing efforts to expand and promote competitive and fun local tennis play, the SMCTA has created the Southern Maryland Tennis Cup. The SMTC framework provides a system where players can earn points for participating in local events which accumulate over the course of a year. Players with the highest cumulative point total at the end of the year in each of 5 divisions will be crowned the Cup winners. The Spring Fling and the Breton Bay Open, two of our long standing and well known yearly tournaments, have become affiliated with the series. In addition, a new tournament, the St. Mary's College Open, has been added to the yearly calendar. In the future we hope to foster new tournaments in Southern Maryland area as well as invite any pre-existing tournaments to become a part of the SMTC Series. The ultimate goal of the Southern Maryland Tennis Cup is to promote increased participation for all local events, without diminishing the importance of participating in, nor the achievement of winning any of the individual tournaments. The SMCTA is looking for volunteers to help make our upcoming block parties a success. They are being held on Satruday, April 3rd at the Leonard Hall rec center from 10am - 1pm, Saturday, April 17 at Cecil Park from 12pm - 2 pm. The block parties are designed to attract the interest of kids and new tennis players to the game, and include multiple short courts with soft tennis balls and raquets available for public use. Volunteer help needed consists mainly of helping to keep things fun and running in an organized fashion, and talking with parents and new players about the various tennis oppurtunites available in St. Mary's. If you would like to help out on either or both days, please contact Brian Abell ASAP! Thank you! The SMCTA is always in need of volunteers! If you would like to get involved, please contact our president Sue Bellis to find out more information on how you can help. |

Third Annual Polar Bear Tennis Tournament, February 20 – 21, at Breton Bay Golf and Country Club. This tournament is strategically scheduled to help high school players gear up for their seasons, and high school players of all levels may register. To ensure close matches, players are placed in groups based on ability, from newer players to accomplished high school players. There is no younger age limit, but players must be able to serve to some degree and keep score. Events this year include singles and doubles. Separate boys’ and girls’ events will be held if the number of registrations warrants this. Otherwise, girls might compete against boys of similar playing ability. While a male and female may sign up as a doubles team, no separate mixed doubles event is planned unless the entries warrant this. Round Robin format, with two matches guaranteed. Due to possible weather delays, players must be available between 9AM and 8PM both days and special match times should not be requested. For more info you may visit bretonbayrecreation.com or contact Russ Carrington. Registration forms must be received by 9PM on February 17th, and can be downloaded by clicking here. |

As of last night I upgraded our hosting account to a dedicated IP address, rather than a shared IP, which solved the issue of not being able to access the site from NMCI. It is likely that another site which was sharing our old address got blocked, which in turn blocked our site as well. Happy browsing! |
